On a practical note, the top is fabricated stainless steel with a food safe gasket to seal with the glass. After shaking, the little hat on the spout pulls off and the ice is strained out by the small diameter of the pouring tube. I highly recommend practicing your technique with this item repeatedly with your friends for maximum enjoyment.
